Iran’s intention to launch an attack on Israel within the next 24 to 48 hours has been highlighted in a recent report by the Wall Street Journal. The report suggests that Israel is bracing itself for a direct assault, either in the north or south of the country.
According to sources cited in the Wall Street Journal report, the Iranian regime is deliberating on attack plans, though no final decision has been reached.
The anticipated attack is purportedly a response to an alleged Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, resulting in casualties among members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force. Tehran has openly threatened retaliation for the incident.
Earlier reports, including one from Bloomberg citing US intelligence, indicated the likelihood of an imminent Iranian attack on Israel. However, the Wall Street Journal’s sources suggest that the attack might target locations within Israel’s borders.
Recent developments have seen the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps exploring options for striking Israeli interests, with simulations of missile attacks on strategic Israeli locations circulating on associated social media accounts.
Concerns about potential repercussions, such as Israeli counterattacks targeting Iranian infrastructure, have been voiced by Iranian leadership. Various scenarios, including the involvement of proxies in Iraq and Syria or attacks on embassies in Arab countries, are being considered.
Israeli authorities have made clear their readiness to respond to any Iranian aggression, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirming a policy of retaliation against those who harm Israel.
Israel’s state of preparedness has been emphasized by spokesperson Rear-Adm. Daniel Hagari, who stated that the country is on high alert. Additionally, Israel has issued warnings about potential disruptions to Iran’s cyber infrastructure.
In light of the escalating threat, the US Embassy in Israel has restricted staff travel outside designated areas, while international leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German and British foreign ministers, have urged Iran to refrain from attacking Israel.
Amidst these tensions, Iranian nuclear scientist Mahmoud Reza Aghamiri asserted that Iran’s capacity to develop a nuclear weapon should not be underestimated.
