A local court in Islamabad issued arrest warrants for PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Aamir Dogar, and Aamir Mughal on Monday. The court took this action after the opposition figures failed to appear in cases related to the violation of Section 144.
Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Khan presided over the hearing. During the proceedings, he accepted exemption pleas for PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Shoaib Shaheen. However, the court could not hear arguments on the acquittal applications of the accused.
The cases were registered at the I-9 police station. Authorities had booked PTI leaders over alleged violations of the prohibitory order. The court has now adjourned the hearing until April 23.
56 PTI Workers Granted Bail
In a separate development, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad granted bail to 56 PTI workers. Each detainee was released on a surety bond of Rs5,000.
ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain issued the ruling. Advocate Sardar Busy represented the arrested workers. The PTI members had been taken into custody in cases filed at Tarnol and Kohsar police stations following the protest on November 26.
PTI Protest and Clashes with Authorities
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had launched a march from Peshawar to Islamabad on November 24, 2024. The demonstration, led by Bushra Bibi and the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aimed to demand the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The march reached Islamabad late on November 25. The next day, clashes erupted between PTI supporters and law enforcement agencies. Several individuals, including police personnel, sustained injuries.
Following the violent confrontation, authorities registered multiple cases against PTI leaders and hundreds of party workers. These cases, lodged at different police stations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, included charges under anti-terrorism laws.
