A station house officer (SHO) is among the five police officials of the Islamabad police who have been suspended indefinitely in the case of the alleged raid on the house of PTI leader Gohar Ali Khan.
After an initial investigation into the police operation at the lawyer’s house, the Margalla SHO and four other officers, namely sub-inspectors Haider Ali and Mansab Dar, constables Sajjad and Tahir, along with lady official Shabana, have been suspended until further notice. The superintendent of police (City) has been assigned as the inquiry officer, and a report is expected within three days.
The Islamabad Police, through its official account, stated on Sunday that a “fact-finding inquiry” revealed their team went to a residence in Sector F-7/2 on Saturday based on a tip about a proclaimed offender. Upon realizing the house belonged to Barrister Gohar, the team purportedly withdrew immediately.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan summoned the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and ordered an investigation. CCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan assured the PTI leader of a thorough inquiry, pledging departmental action if any police officer is found culpable.
PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had asserted on Saturday that security forces raided his Islamabad home, mistreated his son and nephew, and confiscated documents and equipment. This claim was made during the Supreme Court hearing on the election commission’s appeal against the Peshawar High Court’s decision allowing the PTI to use its bat election symbol. While Barrister Ali Zafar presented arguments, the PTI chairman informed the chief justice about the raid, physical assault on his nephew, and the confiscation of documents by four vehicles.
