Islamabad: At least eight people, including the bride and groom, lost their lives after a gas cylinder explosion tore through a wedding house in G-7/2 Aabpara late Saturday night.
According to rescue officials, the powerful blast caused the building to collapse, trapping several people under the debris. Six others were injured and were shifted to nearby hospitals along with the bodies of the deceased.
Police said a wedding function was underway when the explosion occurred, damaging four nearby houses as well. The blast reportedly took place around 2:00am, shortly after the wedding procession (baraat) arrived at the house.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately and launched search and rescue operations, which continued for several hours.
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the explosion, while residents of the area remain in shock over the tragedy.
