BEIJING: China has voiced its opposition to any actions that could exacerbate tensions in the region, following reports of explosions near the city of Isfahan in Iran. Beijing’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, stated that China is aware of the reports and firmly opposes any actions that could escalate the situation further.
This statement from China comes amidst US media reports suggesting that Israel carried out a missile strike on a site in Iran. Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency confirmed the explosions in Isfahan, while official Iranian television announced flight delays in several cities. Iranian officials claimed to have downed multiple drones and emphasized that, as of now, there has been no missile strike on Iran.
Additionally, Iranian media reported on Friday that there was minimal damage following the explosions near Isfahan. Iranian state media also dismissed allegations of foreign attacks, citing the downing of drones and the absence of reports indicating an external assault on Iran.
Reports suggest that the US was informed in advance of Israel’s purported attack on Iran but did not endorse or participate in the operation, according to American officials as cited by CNN and NBC. Israel reportedly provided the US with prior notification of the attack.
