Italy has announced it will issue 10,500 work visas for skilled Pakistani workers, marking a major development in bilateral relations.
The announcement came after a high-level meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Italian counterpart Matteo Piantedosi in Rome.
The decision is aimed at promoting legal migration and strengthening workforce cooperation between the two countries.
10,500 Work Visas Announced
Speaking after the meeting, Matteo Piantedosi said Italy will issue 10,500 work visas to Pakistan’s skilled labour force. He added that both countries will further enhance cooperation to promote legal migration pathways.
The move is expected to create new employment opportunities for Pakistani workers and improve structured migration channels.
During the talks, both sides also agreed to grant visa exemption to holders of Pakistani diplomatic passports. Officials described this as another positive step in strengthening diplomatic ties.
The ministers discussed expanding cooperation in internal security, tackling illegal immigration, and curbing human smuggling and drug trafficking.
Mohsin Naqvi informed Italian authorities that Pakistan has tightened monitoring at airports and sea borders. As a result, illegal immigration cases have declined significantly. He also highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing crackdown against human trafficking networks and narcotics smuggling.
In response, Matteo Piantedosi appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to control illegal migration. He expressed Italy’s readiness to expand cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Officials termed the meeting a new chapter in Pakistan–Italy cooperation. Both countries agreed to strengthen collaboration in security and manpower sectors.
Punjab Police officers also briefed Italian authorities about the performance of Police Service Centres Global, which provide modern citizen services.
