The Jaffar Express is back in service after a deadly terrorist attack halted its operations for over two weeks. On Thursday, the train departed from Quetta Railway Station, carrying more than 400 passengers to Peshawar. Railway officials confirmed the resumption, assuring the public that strict security measures were in place.
The train service was suspended on March 11 after the Jaffar Express attack in the Mach area of Kachhi. Militants from the banned Balochistan Liberation Army hijacked the train, taking over 400 passengers hostage. The Pakistan Army launched a daring commando operation, rescuing the captives and neutralizing 33 attackers.
Before the military intervened, terrorists had already killed 26 passengers in cold blood. During the intense rescue operation, four security personnel were also martyred. After clearing the train, authorities tightened security to prevent another Jaffar Express attack.
According to the Divisional Superintendent (DS) Railways, security forces have increased surveillance and deployed additional personnel along the route. The train left Quetta at 9 AM and is expected to reach Peshawar on schedule.
Meanwhile, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested four suspected facilitators of the Jaffar Express attack. Investigators believe these individuals played a role in aiding the militants. Officials are conducting further inquiries to track down more accomplices.
The Jaffar Express attack shook the nation, highlighting the persistent security threats in Balochistan. However, with reinforced safety measures, authorities aim to ensure that such tragedies do not repeat.
