JD Vance Says US-Iran Direct Talks Channel Established to Reduce Tensions

US Vice President JD Vance has said that the United States and Iran have agreed to establish a channel for US-Iran direct talks aimed at reducing tensions between the two countries.

In an interview with a British website, Vance said Iranian and American military officials would meet in Doha to discuss disputes and seek ways to prevent escalation.

According to Vance, Iranian officials proposed sending a representative from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to Doha. The representative would maintain direct communication with a US Central Command (CENTCOM) official to address disagreements and manage potential crises.

Vance said this mechanism could help resolve several important issues and improve communication between the two sides.

He also revealed that the United Arab Emirates has recently established similar direct contacts with Iran, including discussions involving the IRGC, marking a significant diplomatic development.

Observers have described the move as unusual because the United States officially designates the IRGC as a terrorist organization under US law. As a result, direct talks between CENTCOM and the IRGC could raise legal and diplomatic questions.

Analysts believe that if the communication channel proves effective, it could help build trust between the military institutions of both countries and reduce the risk of future confrontation.
