Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidates announced their boycott of the Senate elections in Sindh on Sunday. During a press conference in Karachi, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh stated, “We will re-engage with the political system after reclaiming our mandate. Those who have taken our mandate are currently in power.”
He highlighted the role of lawyers in advocating for genuine freedom, saying, “Lawyers have been at the forefront of the struggle for real freedom.”
Sheikh emphasized the limited representation of lawmakers with a genuine mandate in the Sindh Assembly, stating, “Currently, only nine lawmakers in the Sindh Assembly hold a true mandate.”
Criticizing the current government, Sheikh remarked, “The entire system, including the prime minister and president, is deemed illegitimate.”
He concluded with optimism, saying, “Once we regain our mandate, the PTI founder will assume the role of prime minister.”
Additionally, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) announced their decision not to participate in the Senate elections from Sindh on Saturday. JI opted for impartiality, while GDA continued its boycott of the Senate polls.
The lone JI lawmaker in the Sindh Assembly refrained from voting in the Senate elections, and the three GDA candidates also abstained from casting their votes.
