ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has voiced its disapproval of the commission established to probe allegations of judicial interference raised by Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges. The party insists on forming an inquiry commission led by serving judges, similar to past precedents, rather than retired ones.
Chairman of PTI, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, emphasized the party’s stance during an interview with a private news channel. He argued that retired judges lack the authority and effectiveness of serving judges and urged for the inclusion of currently active judges in the commission.
The federal government’s decision to form the inquiry commission came in response to a letter from six IHC judges to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), citing concerns of interference following a recent Supreme Court judgment on the Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui dismissal case. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced this decision during a federal cabinet meeting held on Saturday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa reiterated the judiciary’s commitment to independence in response to the allegations. He emphasized the significance of judicial independence in maintaining the rule of law and democracy, stating that any executive interference in judicial affairs would not be tolerated.
