The ground link to Kaghan Valley has been temporarily restored, allowing for the evacuation of tourists and locals stranded due to recent flooding.
As of Monday morning, 95 percent of the stranded vehicles have been successfully evacuated through a temporary route, leading to a significant clearing out of hotels from Kaghan Valley to Naran Valley.
Despite this progress, approximately 120 vehicles remain stranded in Mahandri. Sources report that 150 vehicles were successfully evacuated last night before rising water levels in a nearby stream forced a halt in traffic on the temporary route.
Officials are hopeful that once the route is fully repaired, the remaining tourists and locals will be safely evacuated.
Meanwhile, construction work on a new bridge at Mahandri is ongoing, but no decision has been made regarding how to break the dam formed by debris in the Kunhar River.
This blockage has posed a significant threat to the Mahandri market and surrounding areas in Mansehra.
The road link to Kaghan Valley was initially severed seven days ago when the bridge over the Manoor rain drain collapsed, trapping many tourists.
The debris from the collapse also obstructed the flow of the Kunhar River, endangering the Mahandri market. Floodwaters from the blocked river have entered the basements of nine hotels in Mansehra, with 14 hotels and more than 50 shops affected by the rainwater.
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to restore full access to the valley and ensure the safety of all remaining individuals.
