Karachi Oil Tanker Crash: 13 Dead After Tanker Overturns on Passenger Van

KARACHI: At least 13 people were killed and several others injured in a tragic accident in Karachi after an oil tanker overturned onto a passenger van, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to rescue authorities, the tanker lost control and fell on a smaller passenger vehicle, while a car was also hit in the incident. The impact caused a major oil spill on the road, increasing the risk at the site and complicating rescue efforts.

Initial reports suggest that a vehicle was coming the wrong way, forcing the tanker driver to lose control. However, Sindh Police officials said the exact cause of the accident will be determined after a detailed investigation.

The accident occurred on the Hyderabad-to-Karachi track, where emergency teams from Rescue 1122 reached the scene and began relief operations. Several passengers were trapped inside the van, and rescuers are using cutting equipment to retrieve them.

Authorities have also called in cranes to lift the overturned tanker, while the leaked oil continues to spread on the road, posing further danger.

The injured are being shifted to nearby hospitals as rescue work continues. Officials warned that the situation remains critical due to the fuel spill and urged commuters to avoid the route.
