KARACH: Karachi police arrested a “most wanted” terrorist affiliated with the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) from the Lyari area, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) South Asad Raza said on Sunday.
Identified as Mairaj alias Mama, the arrested militant was known to provide crucial intelligence to BLA commander Jalal. In 2017, Mairaj conducted surveillance on an army convoy traveling from Turbat to Gwadar in Balochistan, leading to a subsequent attack by militants resulting in the martyrdom of Pakistan Army personnel.
According to DIG South Raza, Mairaj was also involved in spying on a military camp within a school in Balochistan’s Naseerabad, which ultimately led to an attack resulting in soldier casualties.
Moreover, the arrested militant was involved in the targeted killing of four individuals, who were relatives of an officer working at an intelligence agency, through surveillance activities, added the DIG.
Furthermore, Mairaj played a role in orchestrating an attack on Gwadar Port during the holy month of Ramadan, resulting in casualties among soldiers, as confirmed by DIG Raza. Additionally, the terrorist was involved in an assault on army personnel in Nushki, resulting in multiple casualties among soldiers.
