KARACHI: Karachi has experienced a dramatic increase in street crimes, with local police reporting over 44,000 incidents in the first seven months of 2024.
According to the police data, motorcycle thefts dominate the crime statistics, with more than 31,000 motorcycles stolen or snatched. Additionally, over 11,800 mobile phones were reported stolen during the same period.
The statistics also reveal that approximately 1,200 cars were taken from their owners, further contributing to the growing sense of insecurity in the city.
Recovery rates for stolen property remain dismal. Police have managed to recover only 1,500 motorcycles, 220 cars, and 120 mobile phones out of the total reported thefts.
