Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, stated that global stability relies on resolving the Palestinian issue and emphasized the urgent need for global cooperation and systemic reforms to address the world’s most pressing security and development challenges.
Speaking at the United Nations Future Summit, he highlighted that security threats endanger future generations and called for reforms in the global financial system to create opportunities for developing nations.
Asif urged collective efforts to combat security threats that jeopardize both current peace and the well-being of future generations. He pointed out that over 100 developing countries urgently require reforms in the global system to promote growth and stability.
“As a global community, we have a role to play in charting a better course for the world,” he said, advocating for collaboration to achieve a safer, more peaceful, inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous future.
He proposed the establishment of a Global Digital Compact to ensure that future generations have access to digital opportunities, stressing that bridging the digital divide is essential for an equitable future. Asif also called for agreements that would lead to a more just world.

Addressing the substantial $4 trillion financing gap for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), he emphasized the need to review and reform the sovereign debt system to create a fairer environment for developing nations. He advocated for a more equitable global tax regime and suggested reducing debt costs for these countries to alleviate their financial burdens.
Furthermore, Asif underscored the importance of fulfilling commitments related to Official Development Assistance (ODA) to support the economic growth of developing nations. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with the international community to build a just and equitable global system that benefits all nations, especially those in the developing world.
In related news, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 27. A statement from the Foreign Office confirmed his participation in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York from September 23 to 27. In his address, Prime Minister Sharif will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral support and highlight the UN’s vital role in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity. He is currently in New York for the General Assembly session, accompanied by federal ministers Khawaja Asif, Atta Tarar, Khalid Maqbool, and Tariq Fatmi.
