PESHAWAR: The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haji Ghulam Ali, has called for the inaugural provincial assembly session to convene on February 28, according to a notification issued by the assembly secretariat.
Scheduled for 11:00 am, the session will witness the newly elected members of the provincial assembly taking their oaths. Additionally, the election for the chief minister, speaker, and deputy speaker will be conducted during the same session.
Following the February 8 elections, where independent candidates supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured 91 out of the total 113 seats, the PTI-backed candidates emerged victorious.
In terms of party representation, JUI-F secured seven seats, PML-N won five seats, while PPP ended up with three seats in the provincial assembly.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly also includes 30 reserved seats, with 26 designated for women and four for minorities. While PTI-backed independent candidates aligned with the Sunni Ittehad Council to secure their share, the Election Commission of Pakistan has allocated reserved seats to other political parties such as JUIF and PML-N. However, decisions regarding the allocation of the remaining 21 women’s seats and four minority seats are pending.
