Peshawar – 12 June 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated a record Rs. 276 billion to the health sector in the 2025–26 budget, reflecting a 19% increase from the previous year. The province aims to expand healthcare access, especially through the flagship Sehat Card Plus program.
The Sehat Card budget for settled districts has been increased from Rs. 28 billion to Rs. 35 billion, while Rs. 6 billion has been earmarked for the merged districts. The program now includes free treatment for kidney, liver, and heart diseases, as well as bone marrow transplants and cochlear implants. A new life insurance feature has also been added for beneficiaries.
Major health initiatives in the coming year include:
Upgrading over 2,500 rural and urban Basic Health Units (BHUs) with medical supplies, equipment, and electricity.
Establishing neonatal care centers in five districts.
Launching a Cardiology Institute in Mardan.
Setting up a Nursing College in Upper Chitral and upgrading hospitals in Orakzai and Kurram districts.
The government emphasized that its vision is to ensure quality and affordable healthcare for every citizen, especially in underserved and disaster-affected regions.
This ambitious health allocation reaffirms the KP government’s commitment to human development and public welfare despite limited resources from the federal government.
