The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet has approved a major Ramadan relief package, alongside key legislative and development measures, while Punjab has started distributing cards under its own Ramadan assistance scheme.
KP Finance Adviser Muzammil Aslam said 1.063 million low-income residents will benefit from the Ramadan package this year. Each eligible family will receive an average of Rs12,500. Due to rising inflation, the chief minister increased the Ramadan package by 25% compared to last year.
The cabinet also approved the Hindu Marriage Amendment Bill and the Kalash Marriage Bill. Approval was granted for appointments to the National Commission for Minorities’ Rights.
In addition, the cabinet sanctioned an extra Rs385 million grant for families of Levies martyrs. It approved the creation of a new tehsil in Tank district, reconstitution of the Employees’ Old Age Benefits Institution board of trustees, and an additional grant for the DHQ Teaching Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan.
The government also cleared an increase in funding for a pilot online education project and approved activation of IT labs in 958 high and higher secondary schools across the province.
Other approvals include construction of a fruit and vegetable market in Bara tehsil of Khyber district, installation of RPC manhole covers in WSSP areas, and the draft Women Empowerment Policy 2026–2030. A revised livestock employment improvement project for Hazara division was also endorsed.
Under the scheme, 4.2 million deserving families will receive assistance. Distribution is expected to be completed by March 1. Each eligible family will receive Rs10,000 through the relief card.
Officials say the measures aim to provide financial relief to vulnerable households during Ramadan.
