KP Emergency Decision: PM Shehbaz Calls Key Security Meeting

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned a high-level meeting today to review the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A KP emergency decision is likely to come out of the session, according to sources.

The meeting will take place at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad, with Shehbaz Sharif in the chair.

Who Will Attend the Security Meeting

Senior federal ministers and top officials of the Interior Ministry are expected to attend, sources said. Interior Ministry officials will give the participants a detailed briefing on the current state of law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The briefing is expected to shape the discussion on whether tougher measures are needed in the province.

Emergency Proposal for 12 Districts

Earlier, sources had said the proposal on the table covers 12 districts, including the merged districts of the former FATA. The plan also suggests that the federal government take over some key powers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sources added that the participants are likely to approve major decisions after reviewing Articles 232 to 234 of the Constitution.

What Happens Next

If the meeting decides to impose an emergency, the move will need the approval of the federal cabinet. The prime minister would then call a separate cabinet meeting to seek that approval.

For now, no final decision has been announced. The outcome of today’s session will show whether the federal government goes ahead with the emergency plan for the province.
