Dr. Amjad Ali, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Housing, revealed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government was not informed about the visit of foreign diplomats to Swat, where their convoy was attacked on Sunday, resulting in the death of a policeman and injuries to four others.
Speaking in the KP Assembly, Dr. Amjad expressed frustration over the lack of communication, stating that only the District Police Officer and deputy commissioner were aware of the diplomats’ presence. He questioned whether a no-objection certificate had been obtained and raised concerns about how attackers knew of the diplomats’ visit, suggesting it could deter tourism in the region.
Referencing former minister Murad Saeed, Dr. Amjad highlighted that Saeed’s warnings had proven accurate. He criticized the threats against Saeed’s family and condemned the political use of women, mentioning Reham Khan and Ayesha Gulalai.
Separately, government member Ali Hadi raised alarms about the escalating violence in Kurram, where rival groups continue to clash despite government-led Jirgas. He also emphasized the urgent need for development work in his constituency, which has been neglected since the February 8 elections, with unemployment and territorial disputes being the key issues.
