PESHAWAR: The caretaker government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has opted to block over 58,000 suspicious Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) through the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), as reported by local media on Wednesday.
The decision was made during a meeting of the provincial steering committee on the repatriation of illegal foreigners held on November 17. The minutes of the meeting indicate a detailed discussion on the status of complex cases, including inter-country marriages, PoR/ACC/fake, and blocked CNICs.
It was agreed that deputy commissioners would hold meetings on the matter within the next five days. The meeting concluded that individuals involved in complex cases would not be repatriated until recommendations were made by the relevant district liaison committee/DICC, followed by Nadra implementation.
Furthermore, authorities have completed the mapping process for 9,720 illegal refugees in Peshawar. This development coincides with the repatriation of illegal foreign nationals, including Afghans, to their homelands. Torkham and Chaman borders witness thousands of Afghans refugees returning daily.
To facilitate the dignified return of Afghans, transit camps with necessary facilities have been set up in various districts for their temporary accommodation. In October, the federal government had announced a deadline for all illegal immigrants to leave Pakistan by November 1 or face forceful expulsion. Following the expiration of the deadline, authorities initiated a crackdown to repatriate illegal aliens to their respective countries.
