PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken decisive steps towards investigating the events of May 9 by approving the formation of a judicial commission following a resolution passed by the Provincial Assembly.
Aftab Alam, KP Law Minister, announced that the provincial cabinet, chaired by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, has authorized the establishment of a judicial commission to delve into the May 9 incidents.
The commission’s primary objective is to identify the orchestrators and executors of the May 9 events through a meticulous judicial inquiry, sources from the KP Cabinet disclosed.
Alam stated that a comprehensive summary detailing the circumstances surrounding the regime change and the May 9 incidents has been drafted. The next course of action involves petitioning the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to constitute the judicial commission, pending approval of the summary.
The summary encompasses issues related to the arrest and harassment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers, as well as concerns regarding the PTI’s electoral symbol ‘bat’ and the caretaker government’s extended tenure beyond the legal limit of 90 days. It also addresses issues concerning Form-45 and Form-47.
Previously, the KP government had passed a resolution urging the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 incidents, which was subsequently forwarded to the provincial cabinet for endorsement.
Additionally, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has lifted the ban on all types of recruitment across the province.
Furthermore, the cabinet has approved the creation of 565 police positions for the DI Khan sub-division of Kalachi. This includes recruitment for 5 sub-inspectors, 10 assistant sub-inspectors, 50 head constables, and 500 constables, aimed at bolstering law enforcement and enhancing security measures.
Moreover, the cabinet has endorsed the implementation of a traffic warden system across divisional headquarters, similar to those in Peshawar, Swat, and Abbottabad. This initiative will result in the establishment of 1,179 new warden posts, encompassing roles such as Superintendent of Police, Traffic Officer, Senior Warden, Warden, Head Constable, and Junior Patrolling Officer.
In addition, the cabinet has allocated an additional Rs 319.627 million for Cadet College Razmak, Cadet College Spinkai, and Cadet College Vana.
Lastly, the cabinet has approved a 100 percent increase in rents for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Houses located in Islamabad and Abbottabad, as well as Shahi Guest House in Peshawar.
