Newly obtained documents highlight a significant KP police salary disparity compared to other provinces, exposing a substantial difference in the pay structure of law enforcement personnel. The records reveal that police officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa earn far less than their counterparts in Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh.
According to the documents, the Inspector General (IG) of Balochistan receives Rs369,498 more per month than the IG of KP. Similarly, a Superintendent of Police (SP) in Balochistan earns Rs221,196 more than an SP in KP. The salary gap extends to other ranks as well, with Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) and Additional Inspectors General (AIG) in Balochistan earning Rs281,177 more than those in KP.
Further breakdowns show that Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) in Balochistan earn Rs306,474 more than their counterparts in KP. The salary gap for Additional IGs between both provinces stands at Rs322,309. Even at lower ranks, the disparity persists. A constable in Balochistan earns Rs69,885 per month, while in KP, the salary is Rs69,127. Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) in Balochistan receive Rs345 more than those in KP.
Interestingly, a few ranks in KP have a slight salary edge. Sub-Inspectors in KP earn Rs1,606 more than their Balochistan counterparts, while Inspectors receive Rs363 more. However, Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) in Balochistan still earn Rs14,540 more than those in KP. The issue extends beyond these two provinces, as police personnel in Punjab and Sindh also receive higher salaries than officers in KP.
Amid this KP police salary disparity, IG KP Zulfiqar Hameed has officially written to KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, requesting a salary increase for the police force. In his letter, he emphasized that KP police officers have made tremendous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He pointed out that KP faces similar security threats as Balochistan, yet its police force is underpaid.
To address this concern, IG Zulfiqar Hameed urged the provincial government to declare KP a “hard area.” He stressed that salaries should be raised to match those in Balochistan to ensure fairness and morale among law enforcement personnel.
With this growing debate over KP police salary disparity, the government now faces mounting pressure to bridge the pay gap and recognize the sacrifices of the province’s police force.
