The KP police staff shortage crisis has become a serious concern as official documents reveal a major lack of personnel across different ranks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police. According to the records, the province is facing a shortage of more than 15,000 officers from constable to inspector level.
The KP police staff shortage crisis shows that around 130 inspector posts remain vacant, while the force urgently needs over 9,600 constables. In addition, there is a shortage of more than 2,100 head constables and over 2,100 assistant sub-inspectors. Authorities also report a need for around 1,175 sub-inspectors.
The situation becomes more critical as female representation in the force remains extremely low. Official data shows that only one female inspector is currently serving in the province. Similarly, there are just seven female sub-inspectors and 21 assistant sub-inspectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.
Inspector General KP Zulfiqar Hameed highlighted that the province is the most affected by terrorism in Pakistan. He noted that the KP police staff shortage crisis is worsened by a lack of PSP officers, which limits operational strength and planning capacity.
He further stated that although other regions like Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan are declared hard areas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has not received the same status. He added that the matter has been raised with the federal government, along with a request to increase the number of PSP officers.
According to the IG, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has faced more than 50% of terrorism incidents recorded in the country last year. This has increased pressure on an already under-staffed police force.
He also suggested that the provincial government should consider providing a basic salary structure similar to Balochistan to support police personnel. He pointed out that the martyrdom package in KP is currently lower than other provinces, which also needs revision.
The growing KP police staff shortage crisis continues to raise concerns about law enforcement efficiency, especially at a time when the province is dealing with serious security threats.
