Peshawar (Zahid Usman) : The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Department is grappling with a severe shortage of officers across several grades. Official records reveal that this shortage is affecting the department’s ability to function effectively.
In Grade 19, the police department is missing 22 officers. Only 35 officers are currently in service, despite 57 posts being sanctioned for PSP officers at this level.
Similarly, in Grade 18, there is a shortfall of 14 officers. The approved number of posts in this grade stands at 131.
The issue extends to Grade 17 as well. The department requires 15 officers for these positions but is currently short by 7 officers.
The shortage of personnel has been formally reported to the federal government on four separate occasions. However, sources indicate that no action has been taken to address this pressing issue.
This lack of officers is causing operational challenges. It hampers the police department’s ability to provide crucial public services efficiently. According to officials, the absence of sufficient PSP officers directly affects public safety and law enforcement efforts in the region.
Despite repeated appeals, the federal government has yet to respond to the department’s requests for immediate action. The shortage continues to strain the department, leaving critical positions vacant and impacting overall performance.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police urge swift action from federal authorities to resolve this ongoing crisis and restore the department’s capacity to serve the public effectively.
