PESHAWAR : The toll from KP rain-related deaths has climbed to 12 over the past 24 hours, with another 15 people injured as heavy downpours and flash floods triggered roof and wall collapses across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said the fatalities included six men, five children and one woman. Among the injured were eight men, two women and five children, the authority added.
Homes Destroyed as Flooding Spreads Across Districts
Fourteen houses were damaged in the latest spell of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa flash floods, according to PDMA figures. Of these, 13 were partially damaged while one was completely destroyed.
The affected areas span a wide stretch of the province, including Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Lower Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Torghar and Kurram. Officials say PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant agencies are coordinating closely as relief operations continue in the hardest-hit areas.
The Director General of PDMA has instructed local administrations in the affected districts to speed up the distribution of relief supplies and ensure victims receive immediate assistance without delay.
Rivers Remain Normal, But More Rain Expected
Despite the destruction on the ground, PDMA noted that water levels and flow in the province’s rivers and streams remain within normal limits for now. However, officials cautioned that this spell of unsettled weather is expected to continue intermittently until July 23.
As part of its PDMA rain alert, the authority has already written to all district administrations urging heightened vigilance. The public has been advised to avoid non-essential travel, steer clear of sensitive tourist spots, and stay updated through official alerts and advisories.
With KP rain-related deaths mounting and more wet weather forecast in the coming days, authorities are urging residents in vulnerable districts to take precautions seriously as relief efforts continue on the ground.
