Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally announced the auction of special vehicle number plates bearing the names of prominent political and national figures, including President Asif Ali Zardari, former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan.
According to a private television report, the provincial government has decided to include the names of key political leaders and other notable personalities in the upcoming auction of fancy and unique choice number plates. The move is aimed at generating additional revenue while responding to growing public interest in personalised vehicle registration numbers.
Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Fakhr Jahan, speaking to a private TV channel, said the auction will be held on January 27 at Nishtar Hall in Peshawar. He explained that the bidding for fancy and unique choice number plates will begin at Rs1 million.
The minister said the highest bidder will be issued a number plate carrying the name of their preferred political or national personality. He added that the initiative has attracted strong interest from vehicle owners across the province.
Fakhr Jahan further stated that the auction process will be expanded in phases. In the next stages, the names of additional national leaders, well-known personalities, regions, and ethnic groups will also be included in the auction.
According to the provincial minister, the response from the public has been encouraging, and the initiative is expected to bring significant financial benefits to the national exchequer. He said such auctions have proven to be an effective way of increasing non-tax revenue.
Officials from the Excise Department said applications to participate in the auction are being submitted through the “Dastak” mobile application. The department has set January 26, 2026, as the last date for submitting applications.
The Excise Department advised interested vehicle owners to complete the registration process within the stipulated time to ensure eligibility for participation in the auction. Authorities said all procedures will be carried out transparently in accordance with existing rules.
The auction of personalised and high-value number plates has gained popularity in recent years, particularly among car enthusiasts and collectors, with provincial governments increasingly using such initiatives to boost revenue.
