PESHAWAR: The proposal for launching the ‘Billion Tree Tsunami Plus’ project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has been presented. The objective is to plant over one billion trees within a five-year period throughout the province, building upon the successes of the previous Billion Tree Tsunami and 10 Billion Tree Tsunami projects. This initiative underscores a sustained dedication to environmental preservation and reforestation endeavors.
Efforts are underway to promote eco-tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with particular focus on the newly merged districts. Immediate action is being taken to advance ongoing projects in this regard.
The Department of Forestry highlights the crucial role this extensive plantation project will play in addressing climate change challenges in the region. Alongside government nurseries, collaboration with private nurseries will ensure a holistic approach to tree planting and forest rehabilitation.
A spokesperson from the Forest Department has conveyed that Forest Divisions are directed to prioritize plantation activities in government nurseries.
The expansion of forested areas throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is anticipated as a significant outcome of the Billion Tree Project.
Insider reports indicate that the previous ten billion tree project was executed at a cost of 19 billion rupees, underlining the magnitude and importance of these environmental conservation endeavors.
