Security forces killed four terrorists, including Afghan militant Obaidullah Saad, during an intelligence-based operation in Kurram district, according to sources.
The Kurram operation was carried out on September 8, 2026. Sources identified Saad as the son of Ghulam Ghaus Salehi and said he belonged to Shahi Qila village in Afghanistan’s Logar province.
Saad was affiliated with the banned “Fitna al-Khawarij” group and was allegedly involved in several terrorist activities in Pakistan. Three of his associates were also killed during the operation.
Security officials said action against hostile elements attempting to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan would continue without discrimination. They reiterated that safeguarding national security and protecting the lives and property of citizens remained a top priority.
Kurram Operation Targets Terrorist Network
The latest Kurram operation comes amid continued counterterrorism efforts against militants operating along Pakistan’s western border. Security forces have maintained that operations against terrorist elements will continue to protect peace and stability across the country.
Separately, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) killed five militants, including a key commander, during an operation near Shamsto Camp in Peshawar on Thursday.
According to officials, the CTD operation took place at a compound in the Armar area, where militants were allegedly preparing to carry out major terrorist attacks.
The CTD said the group was affiliated with Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) and was allegedly planning bomb attacks against sensitive institutions, imambargahs, churches and other potential targets.
Among those killed was a key commander identified as Imran, alias Abdullah, along with Bilal, alias Abu Bakr. Another militant was identified as Shahidullah, son of Miraj, a resident of Upper Mohmand. Officials said efforts to establish the identities of the remaining two militants were still in progress.
Weapons and Explosives Recovered
Following the CTD operation in Peshawar, security personnel recovered a submachine gun, four pistols, two hand grenades, five magazines and an improvised explosive device, officials said.
The CTD stated that Imran, alias Abu Bakr, was wanted in 20 terrorism cases. These cases allegedly involved bomb attacks and targeted killings of police personnel and political figures in Islamabad and other districts.
According to the department, Imran was also wanted in connection with the killings of Maulana Khan Zeb and former senator Hidayatullah Khan, among other cases.
Investigators further alleged that Imran was directly involved in the killing of Rehan Zeb. The CTD said he was present at the scene alongside other militants and opened fire during the attack.
The department also alleged that Imran had a role in the suicide bombing at a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers’ convention in Bajaur in 2023.
Tarlai Imambargah Attack Investigation
Imran was also wanted in connection with the suicide attack on an imambargah in Tarlai, Islamabad, on February 6, 2026.
According to the CTD, he arranged for a suicide jacket to be transported from Bajaur and facilitated the movement of the bomber from Nowshera to Tarlai in Islamabad.
Officials said Shahidullah, who was killed during the Peshawar operation, had carried out reconnaissance of the Tarlai imambargah and identified it as the intended target.
The CTD said a reward of Rs12 million had been announced for information that could lead to the arrest or establish the whereabouts of Imran, alias Abu Bakr.
The two operations in Kurram and Peshawar highlight the continuing counterterrorism efforts by security agencies against militant networks and individuals accused of planning or carrying out attacks in Pakistan.
