LAHORE: In response to escalating smog levels in Lahore, school timings will be altered starting next week. The Punjab government has initiated anti-smog measures as Lahore continues to rank among the world’s most polluted cities with the winter season approaching.
According to the new notification, schools will open at 8:45 AM and conclude at 2:45 PM, with early closure at 12:45 PM on Fridays. These timings will be in effect from October 28 to January 31. Additionally, school assemblies will take place indoors, and all outdoor activities are prohibited during this period.
As part of the anti-smog strategy, fireworks are banned until January 31, 2025. The public is advised to limit outdoor exposure and wear masks when outside.
Recent data from IQAir shows Lahore’s air quality index reached 503, categorized as “hazardous” for health. To combat the smog, the Punjab government has made arrangements for artificial rain, which is expected to help reduce airborne pollutants and improve public health by alleviating the severity of smog.
