LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) while declaring null and void Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision and allowed ex-finance minister Ishaq Dar to contest Senate elections.
The former minister had challenged the decision of ECP in LHC stating that his nomination papers had been rejected contrary to the facts.
Dar stated in his petition that he had fulfilled all the legal requirements adding that he was not given defense opportunity by the returning officer.
He then requested the court to annul the decision of the ECP.
On Saturday (today), the Election Commission Tribunal headed by Justice Amin-ud-Din declared ECP’s decision null and void and allowed Ishaq Dar and Hafiz Abdul Karim to contest elections of the Upper House.
It is worth mentioning that the provincial election commission had rejected nomination papers of four candidates belonging to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) including Hafiz Abdul Karim, sister of the Prime Minister Sadia Khaqan Abbasi and Ishaq Dar.
