LAHORE: The Appellate Tribunal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted approval to Sanam Javed to participate in the Senate elections by accepting her appeal against the rejection of her nomination papers.
Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, presiding over the tribunal, delivered the verdict after a period of deliberation. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had initially dismissed Sanam Javed’s nomination papers, a decision now overturned by the court.
In response to the tribunal’s decision, Tayyaba Raja, a prominent figure within the party, has publicly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for nominating Sanam Javed as a Senate candidate. Ms. Raja took to social media to express her disapproval, asserting that favoring one individual overlooks the contributions and sacrifices of others.
Ms. Raja expressed concerns regarding the repeated bail granted to Sanam Javed by the anti-terrorism court, raising doubts about the fairness of the legal process.
It is pertinent to mention here that she was also barred from contesting general elections for Punjab and National Assembly. Later, Supreme Court allowed her to contest elections.
