LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday approved the bail plea of former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in a case relating to illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly.
LHC’s Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmad announced the verdict, which had been reserved earlier.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, a senior PTI leader, had applied for post-arrest bail.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) filed the case and arrested Elahi on October 25, 2023. He has faced multiple arrests since June 1 in various cases, with the most recent arrest made by the Punjab ACE on September 18.
According to an ACE spokesperson, Elahi is accused of making 12 illegal appointments to grade 17 positions in the Punjab Assembly by altering official records.
