Lieutenant General Asim Malik has been appointed the new chief of the ISI. The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) announced this news on Monday. Lt Gen Malik will succeed Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the country’s top intelligence officer. He will assume his new role on September 30.
Currently, Lt Gen Malik serves as the adjutant general at the General Headquarters (GHQ). He has held several significant positions in his career. He previously commanded the Balochistan infantry division and an infantry brigade in Waziristan. Lt Gen Malik has also been recognized for his excellence, receiving a Sword of Honor during his training.
His experience includes serving as the chief instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and at the Command and Staff College. Lt Gen Malik is a graduate of Fort Leavenworth in the United States and the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.
With his extensive background, the new ISI chief is well-prepared to lead Pakistan’s intelligence agency into its next phase. His appointment comes at a crucial time for national security and intelligence operations.
