Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a strong crackdown on corruption in PERA, taking strict steps to improve transparency and accountability within the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority.
Chairing the fourth meeting of PERA in Lahore, she directed officials to install body cameras on all personnel by June 30. She said the crackdown on corruption in PERA would not allow any compromise on public service or discipline.
The chief minister ordered a detailed review of 4,000 officers and staff members. She warned that anyone found involved in illegal activities or misuse of authority would face strict punishment. She also approved the dismissal of seven officials over alleged misconduct.
Maryam Nawaz said that every officer’s record in PERA would be examined. She added that honest employees should continue their work without fear, while those involved in wrongdoing must be held accountable. The crackdown on corruption in PERA, she said, is aimed at restoring public trust in the institution.
She stressed that the government would not tolerate corruption or abuse of power under any circumstances. According to her, strict action will be taken against those violating rules, and examples will be set to discourage future misconduct.
Officials briefed the meeting on PERA’s progress, including its ISO certification and ongoing recruitment of 7,000 new personnel, which is expected to be completed by the end of June.
The chief minister also ordered that officers with questionable records be sent back immediately. She further instructed improvements in internal intelligence systems and whistleblower mechanisms to strengthen oversight.
During the meeting, a proposal was discussed to establish a dedicated PERA academy in either Kallar Kahar or Murree/Kotli Sattian. Maryam Nawaz directed that the academy be completed within one year to improve training standards.
She said the goal is to transform PERA into a strong, disciplined, and professional regulatory force that can effectively serve the public and ensure rule of law.
The crackdown on corruption in PERA marks a significant step in the Punjab government’s efforts to improve governance and accountability in public institutions.
