A huge blaze broke out on Thursday inside a garments manufacturing unit located in the city’s Export Processing Zone. Rescue 1122 rushed to the scene immediately, deploying 11 fire tenders to stop the flames from spreading. The fire also extended to an adjacent building, raising serious concerns among emergency teams.
Emergency Response Activated as Fire Threatens Nearby Factories
According to rescue officials, the flames intensified within minutes, threatening two neighbouring factories. One of the adjoining units serves as a chemical storage warehouse, while the other handles second-hand goods. Both sites remain at high risk, making quick firefighting efforts crucial.
Rescue 1122’s Central Command and Control centre dispatched a full response team, including a firefighting crew, an ambulance and fire engines. Thick smoke billowed from the burning garment unit as first responders worked around the clock to contain the blaze.
Workers Safely Evacuated, Firefighting Operation Ongoing
Authorities confirmed that all workers were successfully evacuated from the affected factory. Firefighting teams continue to battle the flames, aiming to protect nearby commercial facilities. Officials said further details will be shared once the fire is fully under control.
Emergency teams emphasized that preventing the fire from reaching the chemical storage warehouse remains a top priority.
