Mastung Blast in Balochistan Kills Six, Injures Three

A deadly explosion tore through the Khad Kocha area of Mastung district in Balochistan on Friday, leaving six people dead and three others injured, according to police officials.

Authorities confirmed that a bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the scene shortly after the blast to investigate what triggered the explosion. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the incident was caused by a planted device or another source.

Police and other law enforcement teams arrived quickly after the Mastung blast, sealing off the surrounding area as part of standard security protocol while investigators worked to piece together what happened.

Those killed and wounded in the explosion were rushed to Mastung hospital, where medical staff handled treatment for the injured alongside the required medico-legal procedures for the deceased.

A Pattern of Violence in Balochistan

This latest Balochistan explosion follows a similar attack just days earlier in Quetta, where a roadside bomb detonated in the Wali Tangi area of Hanna Urak, a popular recreational spot. That earlier blast killed two people and injured two more, as reported by The News.

Incidents like the Khad Kocha blast are far from isolated. Pakistan has seen a marked rise in militant activity, particularly across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban’s return to power in 2021.

Data from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) paints a troubling picture of the second quarter of 2026, identifying KP and Balochistan as the epicenters of violence nationwide, with KP bearing the heaviest toll.

Per the CRSS findings, these two provinces together made up close to 96% of all violence-linked deaths recorded during that period. KP alone accounted for over 61% of fatalities (475 deaths), while Balochistan followed with 34% (265 deaths), underscoring the scale of the region’s security crisis.

In response to this escalating threat, security forces have ramped up intelligence-based operations (IBOs) targeting militant networks across Balochistan under the banner of Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3, aiming to curb further attacks like the one seen in Mastung.
