Dera Ismail Khan: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), announced on Tuesday that his party would launch a mass movement against the current government’s policies without relying on external support or alliances with other political forces.
Speaking at a press conference at his residence, Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed dissatisfaction with the results of past political alliances, stating that the party would now pursue an independent movement. He emphasized that his party no longer wishes to cause embarrassment to anyone, nor be embarrassed themselves.
He also mentioned that JUI will play the role of opposition both inside and outside the parliament, with or without alliances. Maulana Fazlur Rehman noted that the country’s establishment has now taken its internal matters seriously.
He stated that if there were guarantees of non-interference in politics, his party would accept election results without objection, but he expressed concerns about the fairness of those results.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman added that while his party is open to negotiations with the current regime, the real issue is the lack of power and authority within the government. He warned that political instability is damaging the country’s economy and could lead to a situation similar to Bangladesh, which he is determined to avoid.
