Maulana Fazlur Rehman Announces Protest March Against Election Rigging

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), has announced a protest march against election rigging.

Addressing the National Assembly, he announced that his party would stage demonstrations in Karachi on May 2nd and in Peshawar on May 9th.

During his address, Maulana Fazlur Rehman lamented the perceived constraints on political autonomy, asserting that such limitations hinder the strengthening of democracy in Pakistan. He invoked the sacrifices of Pakistan’s forefathers, emphasizing the Islamic foundations of the nation.

Furthermore, he criticized the worsening economic and law enforcement conditions, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing a lack of accountability to address these issues. Reflecting on historical movements like the ‘Azadi March’, he expressed disappointment at the persistent political, economic, and democratic challenges facing Pakistan.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman reaffirmed the constitutional right of all political parties, including the opposition, to peacefully demonstrate.

Meanwhile, Syed Waseem Hussain of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) called upon the government to address the difficulties faced by employees of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO).
