MIA CHANNU: Renowned religious leader Maulana Tariq Jamil met with Olympic gold medalist and javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem at Tableeghi Markaz in Mian Channu on Tuesday, presenting him with a cheque of Rs0.5 million in recognition of his outstanding achievement.
Arshad Nadeem made history by breaking the Olympic record with a 92.97-meter javelin throw during the final held in Paris last week, earning Pakistan its sole gold medal.
Upon his return to Lahore, Arshad Nadeem received a hero’s welcome at Allama Iqbal International Airport, where a large crowd, including political leaders, social activists, and sports officials, gathered to celebrate his victory. Among those who greeted him were Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashhood, and former railway minister Saad Rafique.
On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited Mian Channu and presented Arshad Nadeem with a cheque of Rs100 million in appreciation of his remarkable feat.
Additionally, the Sindh government has announced a prize of Rs50 million for Arshad Nadeem, with Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori offering an additional Rs1 million.
The Punjab government has also initiated civic improvements in Mian Channu, including the installation of new electric transmission lines and the construction of roads and streets in Arshad Nadeem’s hometown.
