ISLAMABAD: The Director General of ISPR Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated on Tuesday that the violent riots of May 9 were not only an assault on the Pakistan Army but on the entire people. Asserting the necessity of upholding the justice system, he emphasized the imperative to apprehend those responsible for the incidents.
In a press briefing, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, remarked that both the people and armed forces bore witness to the events of May 9. He highlighted how people were influenced by false propaganda, leading to orchestrated attacks on military installations nationwide. Chaudhry noted a shift in public sentiment away from extremist groups post-May 9, stating that deceitful tactics would no longer be tolerated.
The ISPR spokesperson lamented the poisoning of innocent minds, leading to violence that resulted in harm to the nation’s army, martyrs, and property.
Addressing the ongoing fight against terrorism, Chaudhry reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace. He underscored Pakistan’s longstanding support for Afghan refugees while pointing out the continued presence of TTP terrorists operating from Afghan territory. Chaudhry emphasized evidence linking recent terrorist activities in Pakistan to groups based in Afghanistan, expressing skepticism regarding the implementation of agreements made by the Afghan government.
Highlighting efforts to counter terrorism, Chaudhry mentioned operations targeting terrorist hideouts in response to attacks on Pakistani soldiers, including recent incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He cited foiled attacks on strategic installations like the Gwadar Port Authority, attributing their planning and execution to elements operating from Afghanistan.
Chaudhry condemned the involvement of Afghan citizens in terrorist activities within Pakistan, considering it a violation of the Doha Agreement. He affirmed the commitment of the Pakistani military to eliminate terrorist networks, including operations targeting terrorists along the Iranian border.
The ISPR chief reiterated the stance of the Pakistani military, underlining a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and affirming efforts to dismantle terrorist networks both domestically and abroad.
