Meena Majeed Baloch: “I Refuse to Be Among Oppressors”

QUETTA: Member of the Provincial Assembly Meena Majeed Baloch used her time on the floor of the Balochistan Provincial Assembly to speak out against violence targeting women across the province. Meena Majeed Baloch spoke of forced abductions, honor-related killings and tribal atrocities, with a particular focus on the Jhalawan belt, which includes Kalat and Khuzdar.

Meena Majeed Baloch on Silence and Complicity

Presenting herself as a voice for the women of Balochistan, she said that staying quiet in the face of tyranny makes a person complicit. “I refuse to count myself among the oppressors,” she declared.

Her remarks drew on the idea that a legislator cannot look away when injustice is happening in plain sight.

The Cases She Raised

The MPA pointed to the cases of Asma Jatak and Laiba as examples of what women and their families endure. According to her, young women and those close to them faced brutal violence for turning down forced proposals or for making basic personal choices.

She said that outdated tribal jirgas continue to suppress the rights of women in the province.

No Custom or Person Above the Law

Meena Majeed Baloch rejected the idea that feudal power can escape accountability. No individual and no tribal custom, she said, stands above the law or above basic human rights.

She added that she stands with the oppressed no matter how powerful the perpetrators may be. Speaking from the treasury benches, she committed to pursuing justice regardless of political or tribal affiliation.

A Message to the Daughters of Balochistan

Addressing women across the province directly, she assured them that the assembly floor will remain a firm platform for their protection and for justice. Her message was that no woman in Balochistan should feel isolated or without a voice.
