QUETTA: The federal government has replaced Balochistan IGP Abdul Khalique Sheikh, appointing Moazzam Jah Ansari as the new Inspector General of Balochistan Police on Wednesday.
According to notifications issued by the Establishment Division, BS-21 officer Abdul Khalique Sheikh has been removed from his position and instructed to report to the Establishment Division until further notice. He has been succeeded by BS-22 officer Moazzam Jah Ansari, who has been transferred from his role as Commandant of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) to serve as the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) for the Government of Balochistan, effective immediately.
Following his appointment, IGP Ansari met with President Asif Ali Zardari, who underscored the need to improve the law and order situation in Balochistan. The president extended his best wishes to Ansari in his new role.
Balochistan continues to grapple with ongoing terrorism, with recent attacks by militants from the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) leaving at least 50 people dead, including 14 security personnel. The militants targeted police stations, damaged railway tracks, and set fire to multiple vehicles.
In response to these incidents, President Zardari called for decisive measures to bolster security in Balochistan and eradicate terrorism. During a meeting with Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the president discussed the province’s security challenges and stressed the need for immediate action.
