Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued a strong warning about the rising wave of online misinformation. Naqvi said that almost 90 percent of news circulating on social media is fake. He added that the government will no longer allow people to upload whatever they want without accountability.
He stated that when national media airs incorrect news, PEMRA takes immediate action. On social media, however, anyone can post images or fabricated stories without checks. Naqvi said this situation is unacceptable and must stop.
Crackdown on Fake News to Begin Soon
The minister clarified that individuals spreading false information are not journalists. He said he supports freedom of expression but emphasized that freedom cannot be used to justify fake reporting.
He announced that a strict crackdown on fabricated content across social platforms will begin soon.
Naqvi also commented on people based in London who, according to him, continue to spread baseless claims about Pakistan’s state institutions.
He said those individuals will eventually return to Pakistan and will be held accountable for every allegation they make.
Afghan Repatriation Policy Will Continue
Naqvi stated that illegal Afghan nationals are being repatriated from Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh. However, the government faces hurdles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where Afghan residents are receiving protection.
He stressed that there will be no compromise on the repatriation policy. He urged Afghan individuals to return to their homeland with dignity.
Naqvi said Afghan citizens were involved in the suicide attack in Islamabad. He added that several recent terror incidents were traced back to Afghan individuals. He warned that Pakistan cannot tolerate more bombings.
400,000 Afghans Sent Back Through Torkham
The minister revealed that by 17 September, 400,000 Afghan nationals had returned through the Torkham border. He warned that any Afghan attempting to re enter Pakistan will be arrested immediately.
Naqvi stated that Pakistan will not allow politics on national security matters. He reaffirmed that the government will make no compromise on issues that threaten the safety of the country.
