Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting lasting peace in the Middle East during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Dr Eskandar Momeni.
According to the Interior Ministry, the two ministers held detailed discussions on Pakistan-Iran relations and the latest regional developments following the recent peace agreement.
Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Momeni on the joint declaration signed in Burgenstock, Switzerland, and said the agreement would not have been possible without the sincere efforts of the Iranian government and its negotiating team.
“Pakistan has always supported peace and stability around the world,” Naqvi said. He expressed hope that the peace agreement would bring long-term positive results for the entire region.
Momeni thanked Pakistan for the warm welcome extended to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his delegation during their recent visit to the country.
The Iranian minister, who was part of President Pezeshkian’s delegation, also appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in the Iran-US negotiations and praised the Pakistani people for their support during the process.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the easing of regional tensions and agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in several areas, including security, counter-terrorism, cyber security and immigration.
Momeni also announced plans to make a detailed visit to Pakistan in the near future to further strengthen cooperation between the interior ministries of the two countries.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, senior Interior Ministry officials, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Commandant of the National Police Academy and the Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
