PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has set up isolation wards in Nowshera hospitals to contain the spread of monkeypox following the recent confirmation of a case in the district.
On Friday, a second case of monkeypox was confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when a traveler tested positive at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar. The infected person is a 47-year-old and resident of Nowshera district. In response to the emergence of this second case, isolation and screening wards have been established in Nowshera hospitals to prevent further spread of the virus.
The first case of monkeypox in the province this year was reported on August 15, 2014, in the Mardan district. Health experts say that monkeypox often starts with flu-like symptoms, including fever, headache, muscle aches, and fatigue. These symptoms usually last for one to two days before a rash appears, typically one to three days after the onset of fever.
