ISLAMABAD: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) announced the closure of multiple motorway sections for maintenance starting at 8 pm on November 22 until further notice. The NHMP has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel for their safety.
The affected motorways include M1 (Peshawar to Islamabad), M2 (Lahore to Islamabad), M3 (Lahore to Abdul Hakeem), M4 (Pindi Bhattian to Multan), M11 (Sialkot to Lahore), and M14 (DI Khan to Hakla). Travelers have been advised to contact the NHMP helpline at 130 or check social media platforms for updates.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from November 23 to November 25 in response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest in Islamabad on November 24. The Punjab Home Department banned protests, rallies, and gatherings to maintain law and order following concerns highlighted by the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order regarding potential terrorist threats targeting public assemblies.
Separately, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema extended Section 144 enforcement in Rawalpindi until November 26, focusing on security near Adiala jail. The decision followed an intelligence meeting citing potential unrest in the area.
These measures come as PTI Chairman Imran Khan mobilizes supporters for a “final protest” against the PML-N-led government, demanding its ouster. Protesters from across Pakistan are expected to march to Islamabad in the coming days.
