In the recent Multan Test match, England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs. This marks a historic moment as Pakistan becomes the first team to lose by an innings after scoring 500 runs. Furthermore, captain Shan Masood has the unfortunate distinction of being the first Pakistan captain to lose the first six Tests.
In their second innings, Pakistan was all out for 220 runs. Salman Agha was the standout performer with 63 runs. Saud Shakeel contributed 29 runs, while Saeem Ayub scored 25 runs. Captain Shan Masood managed only 11 runs, and Mohammad Rizwan followed with 10 runs. Babar Azam had a disappointing outing, scoring just 5 runs, and opener Abdullah Shafiq went out without scoring. All-rounder Aamir Jamal ended unbeaten on 55 runs. Abrar Ahmed, unfortunately, did not bat due to illness.
Pakistan’s second innings was particularly disappointing. Six players were dismissed for just 82 runs. In the first innings, Pakistan had scored 556 runs, boosted by centuries from Shaan Masood, Abdullah Shafiq, and Salman Ali Agha. In response, England set a massive target of 823 runs with seven players out, thanks to Harry Brook’s triple century and Joe Root’s double century.
Looking ahead, the second Test of the series will begin on Tuesday in Multan. England currently leads the three-Test series against Pakistan, one-nil.
