MURREE: In preparation for the Independence Day celebrations, the Murree Traffic Police have introduced a special, comprehensive traffic plan to facilitate tourists in the area. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Benish Fatima announced that 233 officers and personnel will be on duty to manage the traffic flow effectively.
“All traffic from Rawalpindi and Islamabad will be directed through the Expressway and RMKGT Road,” stated CTO Fatima. Several key roads in the Murree Circle, including View Fourth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kaldna Road, and Imtiaz Shaheed Road, will operate as one-way routes to ease congestion. Additionally, Murree Mall Road will be closed to all types of traffic during the celebrations.
To further streamline the flow of traffic, the Murree Traffic Police have established five distinct sectors in the area, ensuring tourists can navigate easily and access necessary services. “Tourists will be provided with complete travel facilities as well as other services,” said CTO Fatima.
Heavy traffic will be restricted, with buses and large vehicles barred from entering Murree from 6 AM to 2 PM. These vehicles will not be permitted beyond Murree Brewery, Bansara Street, and Lower Topa.
For those traveling to Murree and Azad Kashmir, access will be available via the Expressway. Parking will be completely banned up to 200 meters around key junctions such as Jhika Gali Chowk, Kaldna Chowk, and Sunny Bank Chowk. Murree GPO Chowk has also been declared a parking-free zone.
“Parking has always been a significant challenge in the Murree Circle,” acknowledged CTO Benish Fatima, emphasizing that these measures aim to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors during the Independence Day festivities.
