Former member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and ex-Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has kicked off electioneering campaign by placing banners across Rawalpindi and Islamabad as part of his candidacy for the upcoming general election.
Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar had previously announced the establishment of a new political party following a collaboration with ex-prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former finance minister Miftah Ismail. Together, they organized a series of seminars titled ‘Reimagining Pakistan,’ aiming to spotlight the nation’s present challenges and foster a collective agreement on the future course of action necessary for all stakeholders.
Khokhar, who parted ways with the PPP in December 2022 after resigning from his senatorial position, confirmed last week that he intends to run independently in the upcoming elections. His resignation was closely followed by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s departure as the senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), creating speculation about Maryam Nawaz’s potential role in the party.

Khokhar later opted to run independently as the initiative to form a new party was deferred until after the election.
“Some colleagues believe that establishing a new party should be considered post-election, leading to the postponement of the new party plan until after the election,” Khokhar stated.
